Here ’s my report for the 2019 garden season in case of any of you want to grow them !

SUCCESSFUL VARIETIES

LETTUCES - Normally I engraft insensate season lettuces in former fountain so they do n’t bolt but in summer . This past time of year I also plantedSummer Crisp ( Batavian)varieties . They did well in OUR summertime . They did n’t bolt or get acerb and had dough all summer and fall down too . I sleep with all lettuces but now have obtain varieties that grow in heating system . insure outJohnny ’s Seeds .

wintertime SQUASH - Butternut wintertime squash ( any diverseness ) does n’t attract squelch vine borers SVB(their root are solid)OR squash glitch . So for that reason alone , I will implant more butternut squeeze as my winter mash . I ’ve grownItalian Violini butternut , Tahiti butternut , andWaltham butternutthrough the eld and all did well with no bugs ( at least in my garden ) . How great is that ? !

SUMMER SQUASH – Friuilanazucchini alsodoesn’t attract squash bugsalthough I ’m not sure about squash vine borers so I keep it covered with row cover before the flowers come and then reveal them and by then the SVB is become .

GREEN BEANS - This retiring time of year I grewEmeritepole Gallic filet green beans . They are one of my favorites . The Emerite bean did well and try out great .

DRY BEANS - I grow a few varieties of wry edible bean that I sustain from Italy but you could find oneself many of them fromRancho GordoHeirloom Beans online . Rossa di Lucca-(a dark pink bush bean with stripe ) that did fantastic ( I have them from our local Santa Fe Farmers Market atZulu ’s Petals Farm )

PEPPERS – Jimmy Narellopeppers are our favourite odorous Italian pepper andShishitopeppers and both did well .

CUCUMBERS - My all sentence favoriteEATINGcucumber isPoona Kheera , hands down , and I growPICKLINGcucumbers - Parisianfor cornichons , Boothby Blondefor Bread n Butter . All did well .

CARROTS - I grewAtomic RedandCosmic Purplethis year- dainty , cherubic , colorful carrots

BEETS - ChiogaandCylindrabeets did fantastic this year .

CABBAGE - I’ve grownKaliboscabbage the last two old age and it is fantastic , producing huge conical form pass of red cabbage that are sweet than most cabbages .

TOMATOES - Eight tomato plant miscellany did really well and 17 did not fare so well . So they ones that did well this year were : Black Cherry , Cherokee Carbon , Cherokee Purple , Large Barred Boar , Original Goliath , Paul Robeson , and Grosse Verte Rose , Sungold .

UNSUCCESSFUL VARIETIES this year

DRY BEANS - I grew a few varieties of dry noggin that I got from Italy but you’re able to regain many fromRancho GordoHeirloom Beans online . Borlottibean did n’t do well but has in the past . Will uprise again .

Zolphinobeans - started out great but a gopher sustain them all . Zolphino beans are hard to find in the states ( I got mine in Italy ) but can be discover atUprising Seedsthis class . Will grow again .

Tomatoes-17 tomato plant plants did not do well - inadequate production . This very well might have been my defect with not enough water as some varieties that did n’t do well this retiring season have done great in years by . So I ’m not consider most of these out this yr .

Cour di Bue - puny vines , poor production although the Italians swear by them . Will not grow again

Dark Queen - new to me but did not do well . Will try again .

Captain Lucky - died of unknown cause . Will strain this year again

Brandywines - No tomatoes - not enough spring up metre - too brusque a season here . I give up .

BKX - die of CTV ( curly top computer virus ) Bit by Beet Leafhopper . Will try again .

Santorini - Greek tomato - too small and not angelical enough - will not grow again .

MIXED BAG ( some achiever and some not )

SWEET POTATOESGeorgia Jetsweet potatoes- Have a short time of year ( 90 24-hour interval to harvest ) and theharvest was fantasticBUT I permit them go through one hard freezing and many of them moulder I believe because of that . Will produce this twelvemonth but will glean before the first icing , not even waiting for a hard freeze )

TOMATOES - Ananas Noir - normally does well but not this past season . Will grow again .

Virginia Sweet - usually does well but not this past time of year . Will mature again .

heavy Zac - unremarkably does well but not this preceding time of year . Will produce again .

Lucky Cross – This is my all - prison term favourite tomato that ordinarily does well but not this past time of year . Will grow again .
