After work closely with the potting on and growing of hardy nursery parentage Provender Nurseries are delighted to have taken on two Hadlow College students on a part - time basis .
The two student work under Stuart Tickner , the Nursery Manager and are working with the nursery team undertake general nursery work and learning young accomplishment . Working within the existing glasshouse team their day-by-day tasks include unloading camion , lacrimation , weeding , labelling and feeding plants on site .
Modern skill gained at present are creating plant displays , interacting with customer and pruning of topiary industrial plant which take a good eye and patience and of course biosecurity . Whilst working at Provender Nurseries both scholarly person are also being tested with regular plant idents and learn the seasonality of sealed labor and the principle behind when and why seasonal tasks are carried out .
The ex - Hadlow College students , Rob Passey and Adam Harris are settling in well and rapidly becoming valuable team members .
Adam Harris say , ‘ ’ I like cast the attainment I instruct at Hadlow College into practise particularly pruning , feed in plants decently , biosecurity and how significant watering is . It has also avail with plant identifying but I know I can also take for avail if I do n’t have intercourse what I am reckon for . I have never had to contend with customers before which is something I am learn .
I care my job being very wide-ranging . I particularly like tidying the plants and ameliorate their presentation . I did this one finical time with the bay tree trees and was delighted to see man sell as a resolution . ’’
Rob Passey states , “ I delight pruning , move stock , unloading lorry , and put stock out for sales agreement . I have learnt a lot of industrial plant names in the short term I have been here and learnt a spate about the plants themselves . Everyone on the squad is a good jest , and make believe me feel welcome . “
Provender Nurseries continues to work with Hadlow College and is look toward the next academic year to continue the growing regime and working with students within the national curriculum .
Provender Nurseries are actively sourcing stemma for growing on from the fall as well as sourcing stock for the cash and bear sales at the moment .
Due to Covid-19 restrictions placed earlier in the yr some of the students did not finagle to continue the employment experience time of day require for the windup of their line . However , Provender Nurseries to the full mean to continue the body of work experience on site next year .
