garden

clock time for this calendar week ’s edition of Six on Saturday .   Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday .   It could be anything , a effective flower , interesting leaf , a success , a catastrophe , a project , anything at all . Why not join in ?

Here are my Six for this hebdomad .

1 – Veronica – Grown from seed this yr , I picked up the parcel of mixed colours   for 10p in an end of season sale .   Rude not to !   This one is a bluey - purple but I ’m expecting some in white , pink and blue as well . The plants were neglected a little once ab initio potted on so were stunted and leggy on planting out .   They seem to be recover gamely enough and should be okay next year .

2 – Abelia grandiflora – This bush came to me as part of a bulk plant purchase over 10 long time ago when I first converted Border 5 into utile planting outer space – it was previously a note of conifer .   I have not cut the bush in anything other than haphazard way but it does not seem too nark , although it ’s not a very orderly anatomy .   It flowers from early July on , I ’d say it ’s about half way through , but ca n’t recall from this time last year .   I ’ve get one solitary cutting which may or may not root .   If it does , I may replace the parent shrub with its offspring . Failing that , some renovative pruning may be necessary over the winter .

3 – Monarda volt-ampere unk . – I grew these from seminal fluid this year . I ’ve imbed about 20 out into border 2 and another 7 or so out into the front garden . The blossom have a definite purple tinge to them , I was expect more like Bourgogne . Mind you , these were from a ejaculate telephone exchange rather than a works stock breeder , so some variant is to be expected .

4 – Helenium autumnale – I grew these from cum a span of years ago and divided the clump earlier this spring , get 30 - rummy plants which have now produce to a decent sizing .   In typesetter’s case I did n’t have enough ( ! ) I also grow some from seed collected last year .   I have two groups each in the front and back garden and still have 5 comely sized plants to go in somewhere . They are just beginning to flower now and I recollect they ’ll do well this twelvemonth . I hope they ’ll   develop into telling mass displays next yr as they plant . I also covet a couple of other originally flowering helenium kind but have n’t vex my manus on any yet .

5 – Hart ’s tongue fern .   I ’ve had this fern along with two or three others for just a distich , maybe three years . My preferent time for it is when it is unfurl earlier in the fountain , but it is looking good now too .   It is in a fishy spot , getting a little crowd out by an get on clump of pheasant ’s tail smoke .   I ’m kick the bucket to attempt to propagate this fern using the spores , come to a blog post near you presently .

6 – Dahlia ‘ caribbean phantasy ’ . Having grow some Dahlia pinnata from ejaculate last class , I doubled down and buy some Modern genus Tuber this yr with two objectives .   first off , more dahlia !   Secondly , to get some film editing stuff which in spell leads to … more dahlias !    The first bloom took it ’s time give up but now there are three with more on the way .   It ’s somewhat colorful !   My lesson for next year is to take more seriously their indigence to be hard staked , I ’ve lost a couple of stem to wind and sonorous rainfall , although the chief stem turn is for the most part inviolate .
