blab out to tune of Raspberry Beret
Not strictly propagation tie in but these are desperate time . For want of something to do in the garden , I have grubbed up the recently unproductive and cross autumn - fruiting raspberry canes . In a sneaky trip-up to the garden centre , under the cover of image if they had any good Christmas decs in the sale , I bought some new raspberry canes . Or as one of the kids said , pots with some sticks in . Thatiswhat they look like , to be fair . They were on cut-rate sale , half Mary Leontyne Price , soobviouslyI bought more than I need . More you spend , more you lay aside , surely ? I got three varieties , all lay claim to be hard croppers . I question if they ever sell boo as “ rubbish croppers , wo n’t give much fruit ” ? I suspect not . Two varieties ( Cascade Delight and Glen Lyon ) are summer fruiting , one ( Polka ) is fall fruiting , so I should have a discharge of about 3 or 4 months of brisk raspberry . I have 12 canes in sum to plant out , each of which should throw up a lot of cane in the leap , so I ’ll have a proper thicket by the summer .

Sung to tune of Raspberry Beret
In my buying frenzy , I did n’t read the little print about not plant in undercoat previously reside by raspberries or indeed anything in the genus Rubus mob . This is to prevent my young canes catching a virus from the sometime ones , apparently . I thus got more work than I bargained for as I have had to move the gooseberries to where the threadbare old raspberries were . It ’s a good time of twelvemonth to move them as they are hibernate for the winter . We have a redcurrant and a blackcurrent bush , the former fruits quite well , the latter not so much . I have moved both these flora although I was in two minds whether to keep the blackcurrant . I ’ve give it a right haircut , perhaps it will derive back and fruit more enthusiastically in 2017 . well do , or it ’s curtains for the boy blackcurrant . I moved these guy rope so I can get a good run of boo cane , adequately supported . I have visions of a post and telegram arrangement with rank of neatly draw - in raspberry canes , stood to attention . This would be in some contrast with the previous Heath Robinson arrangement , a quat cradle of bamboo and strand that made foot what fruit there was a casual human activity of contortion . Perhaps the last set of canes actually died of disgrace owe to embarrassingly hapless structural support .
Having weeded and dug over the presently - to - be hiss bed , for honorable measure I ’ve add up some manure and land improver .
I ’ve sop the canes for as long as I can manage with limited daylight and now they ’re ready to be planted out .

Relocated gooseberries, pruned en route.
I ’ve unknowingly set forth a razz tribulation ! What would an actual raspberry trial calculate like ? A kangaroo court of law , only barmy ? I impeach you of being a poor fruiter , how do you plead ? I divagate . I forgot to expend micorrhizal fungi on the first miscellanea , so we ’ll see if that makes a unreasoning bit of difference of opinion vs the two variety where I did give them a sprinkle . I ’ve given them all a dependable firming in and watered soundly . Here they are in all their nimbus .
And the autumn ones :
I ’ll account back in the spring on early emergence and cane count .

Relocated blackcurrant, severe haircut.
Happy New Year !
I ’ll be back .
