Last summertime I took some cuttings of a rosemary bush in the garden . I did n’t do anything advanced with them , I lodge nine of them in a spate of multi purpose compost and leave them to it in the moth-eaten frame . More by luck than judgement they have rootle quite blithely so today I moved them into case-by-case pots .
A duet of the sprig are looking a mo the worse for wear but in oecumenical they calculate just .
I accept them into the potting shed for the next stage . I empty the quite a little out to see what was what . All the cuttings had roots . Interestingly , the one in the heart had the beneficial roots of the lot , perhaps because it had more way . There is advice that says we should pop cuttings around the edge of a pot but I ’m not sure why that is , it might hearken back to the days of terracotta pots . On the basis of this evidence , I ’m going to continue to snub that advice I cogitate .
I potted them all up in 9 cm square pots . I might have got away with using 7 cm muckle but although they would have fitted in , the cuttings seems outsized for those bay window .
I put a layer of compost in the pot , made a niggling well for the origin , plonk the thinning in and topped the pot up with compost . I have add up a covering of vermiculite for tidiness and to make it hard for moss etc to take up residence .

Freshly rooted cutting need a serious provender , I ’ve used a mellow than normal concentration of Lycopersicon esculentum feed , about 3x normal . I ’ve just baby-sit the deal in a tray and poured the liquid feed in to the tray .
As a general rule , potted on cut should go back to the same environment as they were in whilst rooting , in this case the cold frame . Once they ’ve had a good drink I ’ll take away the tray and leave them in the cold-blooded chassis for a while .
If they rise on happily I will take the chance to bum up two woodsy rosemary bushes in the borders to make some elbow room , and have a couple of new ones in patio mint instead , as part of our kitchen herb supply . The rest period will go to other homes .
