Other plants you could winter indoors are : ColeusFuschiaSweet Potato Vine
Start with healthy plants
If you are expecting your plants to come through the move first of all they need to be hefty specimens . If a industrial plant reckon sickly or bug infested and has struggle all summertime you are just ask for trouble by bringing it in with your other plants . It is not worth it in the long run , toss it in the compost mountain and call it a daytime .

Clean plants before overwintering
The first thing to do is give them a good shower with a spray schnozzle outdoors , let them dry out well . The index of the spray should be enough to wash off a dependable component of any pestis that may be hiding on or under the leaves .
give them a serious spray with this3 in 1 fungus and pest control liquidis a upright way to help oneself get rid of any that may be left .
An alternate is to spray them with an insecticidal liquid ecstasy . Recipe : 1 gallon distilled water , 2 tablespoons Dr. Bonners castile liquid ecstasy , 2 tablespoons vegetable oil . immix well and put in a spray bottle . Spray leave particularly under them . Let sit for 20 transactions and spray off with a spray snoot .

Some plants do not like this being sprayed on them , Sweet Peas , Azaleas , Begonias … that is why once the sprayer has sit down on the leaves for 20 minute I spray it off . Many just entrust it to dry .
Keep it on script , in the wintertime it is not unknown for wanderer soupcon to snipe out of the blue . Usually for me it is tardy Winter , Early Spring .
wanderer tinge seem to love the drier conditions inside the house . They will suckle the life story out of your flora if you let them get out of control . Spray the flora once a hebdomad with either of the atomiser above to keep wanderer mites at bay .

Cut plants back
Another prep is cutting the plants back to a size of it easier for indoors .
My ivy geranium are in big sized hanging pots so to bring them indoors I take them out and re - pot them in modest 4 in pots to fit on a window sill . I cut back them back to about 4 or 5 in long . I will do the same with the Fuchsias .
Thesweet potato vinesI take slip and root then bring them in . If I have a large industrial plant I dig up the tubers and attempt to overwinter them in the basement . ( I tend to forget I have them by saltation and discover them later in the Summer all dried up . ) This yr I will make a note and endeavor to remember .

Keep your rooted odorous tater starts by a windowpane that gets plenty of sunshine and look out out for those fear spider speck . Mine seem to be peculiarly susceptible , one Clarence Day they are rise like crazy , even twining themselves up my unsighted cord the next they are dropping leaves .
Do n’t be afraid to give them a haircut through the winter , just root what you cut off in water or toss . ( some have kept just cuttings in water all winter and pot up in Spring but I have yet to be successful at that )
Not all works do well inside . Most annuals are not practiced candidates . They are programme to originate a season , go to seed , and break . You are better off saving seeds in crepuscule and replant them .

For the best result with plants you could overwinter here are a few tips …
1. Bright light…
Your plant will postulate the most Christ Within you could give it so next to a window is best . We have a wrap around cover porch which shades our downstairs window but up the stairs gets pure unblocked sunlight , my flora do best up there .
2. Don’t over water…
Let the plants dry out out some between watering .
3. Keep an eye out for pests…
Especially spider pinch . You will see what expect like fine webbing under the leaf if they are present .
expend the 3 in 1 spray or horticultural vegetable oil spray and it will get free of them or get them under control . I take the flora outside , spray it good then bring back inside .
4.Another indoor Pest…
If you get an infestation of the fungus gnats ( some consider they are yield gnats , they are not though they depend similar ) , getthe unenviable ambuscade , usually name for white fly , they work peachy for these pestering gnats . See post highlighted below for a full clause on Fungus Gnats .

So if you have a favorite geranium you require to keep for next year , give bringing it inside to overwinter a effort . You might even get some winter bloom to brighten a dingy day !

One step that many will say is necessary is to bring them in and out to allow them adjust over time to the modification in visible light to reduce stress to the plant . I have never had the time or patience to do that and I have been completely successful with overwintering many so for me it is wholly optional . If you do n’t screw by now you will acquire that I am a fuss free gardener and I carry off any steps I find unnecessary in my horticulture ventures to make it easier thus more gratifying .
