From peak summer blooms to ice-covered branches in winter, this New Jersey garden supplies endless interest

Today we ’re visiting Phyllis Strohmeyer in northwesternNew Jersey . Last year , Phyllis send us a mythic garden year - in - review ( The Year That Was in Northwestern New Jersey ) , and she ’s making it a tradition by sending in some of her pet photos from the 2024 growing season . As we steer deep into fall andwinter is tardily creeping up on us , it ’s a genuine treat to start the day with some tip time of year blush .

Antique plow among blazing star , daisies , and dahlias .
In the 6 years we have lived here this is the first time this older hydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 6–9)has bloom . We had a mild winter .
More beautiful salad days and leafage from the garden this year . A beautiful , brilliant purplegarden phlox(Phlox paniculata , Zones 4–8 ) brings the color while some divers leaf provide textural interest in the background .

I had incidentally left this genus Calla lilyin the ground all wintertime and it surprise me in the spring .
Tumbleweed onions ( Alliumschubertii , Zones 4–9 ) are a firework stopping point for a late spring gardens . With bloom that are often looser than other allium , tumbleweed onions supply a unlike variety of grain and oeuvre in situation where the more vulgar globe human body might reckon out of seat .
