Garden Bloggers Bloom day 3 January 2025

On this Garden Bloggers ’ Bloom Day , check out garden from around the world , thanks toCarol at May Dreams .

In Austin , Texas , disc temps with 3 digits have been the standard for week .   I ’d give anything to see a cloud .   rather with rain attach .   The joke here is that if it drop to 95 , we ’ll get out sweaters .

Since I ’m as interested about the wildlife as about my flora , I was thrilled to see this compounding : Gulf checkered lily butterfly on the pot bougainvillea in the cat cove .

Austin ’s under mandatory water restrictions , so we ’re allowed to water twice a workweek with sprinkler .   It ’s take a bite out of the payroll check , but I ca n’t bear to fall back it all and start from sugar .   For us , it ’s been summer for two old age , so the plants and trees die into the latest episode already under stress .   This fall , I ’ll make a list of the elusive . In the meantime , here are a few that blossom this week .

Opposite the bougainvillea mickle in the cat cove , the potted plumeria refuse to give up . I water once a workweek .

Springing up beside it is this minuscule beauty , its first bloom ever , though for now it remain Crinum ‘ Unidentified . ’

The daylily , also nameless , have n’t throw up , either .   I do n’t think I ’ve ever see them last this long .

And just in time for Bloom Day came this daylily ‘ Mambo Maid , ’ its first bloom ever !

sunflower sprinkled themselves everywhere . Most are not “ design - approved , ” but at this point , their wildlife food factor is more significant than my idea of garden idol . The birds clump to them .

pink crinum

In the crape bed , the Mexican oregano ( Poliomintha longiflora ) is set to supply food , even though its leaves are unhappily dry up .

Various insects check out the coneflowers , too .

And the Brazilian stone rose ( Pavonia braziliensis ) .

Yellow daylily

Ca n’t believe the caladiums are still hanging on .

Near kiddie pool where we live these days , the runt plants are jolly quenched .

On Amelia ’s fence side , the Pride of Barbados / Red Bird of Paradise ( Caesalpinia pulcherrima ) lives for the detent days .

In the hideaway bottom , Crinum ‘ Ellen Bousanquet ’ also continue coming , though wilt before we can appreciate her full glory .   Even at half - mast , the fragrance is deserving a stumble outside .

Nearby , on the terrace , we also get sniff appeal ( after a jump in the kiddie pond ) from the potted old - fashioned petunias . They ’re about fed up with the heat .

But the patio container sambac jasmine wonders why everyone ’s so grumpy .   It keeps pump out the redolence to improve our mental attitude . I always advance this one as a reliever for gardenia fragrance   in Central Texas .   In its big pot , I irrigate once a calendar week .

Bird seed sunflower

Not so fragrant , but skillful enough : the Valentine rose , glad in its new pot .

In front , thechocolate daisy ( Berlandiera lyrata ) has not disappointed me yet .   I doubt my success with this native plant when I planted it over a year ago , but it likes its blot just fine .

And full grief , thePelargonium sidoidesjust does n’t give up !

Also , in front , the black lead never fail to do in heat and drouth . Here ’s a flannel .

Lantana montevidensisjoins it .

Here ’s a somewhat evanesce blueness against the white .   These two cool down us off all summer .

Keep cool and happy Bloom Day !   Linda
