Say what you want in the glasshouse . It ’s a public place . However , when you enter the front door of my home , you better zip it up . I once had an unassuming guest take one expression at my new‘Mrs . Pollock ’ pelargoniumand ‘ Black Heart ’ sweet potato vine(freshly pot up , I might add ) , cringe up his nerve a little and say “ The tie - dyestuff colour makes that plant look fake . ” Oh , the revulsion of it all . My plant are sore , and I do n’t take kindly to insult made against them . So for the future , dear invitee , I say keep your opinion to yourself . We can argue over political relation , religion , even women ’s rights – but do n’t you bring your plant trash talk to my board . You would n’t go up to someone on the street and say “ Hey , your infant is ugly . ” I look the same courtesy for my plant . If you ca n’t say something nice , do n’t say anything at all .
