Views of a Cape Cod garden

Today ’s photograph come from Gaby and John ’s garden in Cape Cod , where they experience just a few hundred yards from the water supply . accord to John , Gaby ’s the actual garden superstar , and he ’s “ just the oink who ferry plants , pots , and bags of soil about on demand”—which , let ’s be honest , is a pretty important Book of Job . I think all of us nurseryman would have sex to have someone to haul around plants , potbelly , and bag for us !

Gaby and John mostly take photo of the garden to document the space and to habituate as a quotation in planning for the next time of year , which is such a great idea . I ’m severe about maintain a garden daybook , but snapping photos is an easy mode to record what was encounter in the garden when and makes it easy to make plans for the future tense . For me , plans are mostly test to squeeze more plant into the space , and it sounds like Gaby is the same mode . As John put it , she ’s “ always hoping to find an appropriate outer space for more ‘ tyke . ’”An graceful bed planted withSedum‘Autumn Joy’(Zones 3–11 ) and Russian sage ( Perovskia atriplicifolia , Zones 4–9 )

The very same layer , later in the season , has transformed visually . The sedum has survive from green to bright pink , and the fountain grass ( Pennisetum orientale , Zones 5–10 ) that was scarcely obtrusive earlier in the year is piss a dramatic statement .

A view from inside the household , see across the pack of cards and out into the garden .

Crisply defined beds and full-strength turf make a great contrast to the softer , more cozy shapes of the shrubs and perennial .

In this corner of the garden , a big planting of hopeful Japanese woods grass ( Hakonechloa macra , Zones 5–9 ) makes a puddle of Au .
