Salvia arizonica’Deep Blue’Zones:5 to 9Conditions : Partial to full shadeSize:8 to 12 inches marvelous ; 12 to 16 inches wideNotable characteristic : southwesterly native , cervid resistant , lapin insubordinate
What is new?Arizona sages lean to have lavender - juicy summer flowers , but this cultivar , as its name states , is much blue . With green and pastel so vernacular in the shadiness , a style of deep blue can make a big difference in a design .

What does someone who has grown it say?David Salman , horticulturist for High Country Gardens in Santa Fe , New Mexico , says , " ' Deep Blue ' is a survival I made from a large bloom pot of seeded player grown Salvia arizonica choose it for its cryptic blue flower coloration .
This species is different from other native western Salvia because it is more adaptable to garden conditions and grow in both sun and shade . I have been growing Salvia arizonica under a linden tree in Santa Fe for many years . It can take more tincture but wo n’t bloom as well . It is a suckering grower forming a nice disperse clump under trees and seems to be able to vie with tree roots .
Typically winters in the West are dry and except at higher elevations , the C. P. Snow does n’t stay on the ground all winter . This plant will likely not be suitable for zone 5 neighborhood that get more than 25 " of hastiness annually as it is native to a more arid clime .

' Deep Blue ' is a very easy care perennial that grows in a wide grasp of grime with the exception of mud . It should be leap planted in zone 5 and 6 to get well set up before wintertime . It needs only some constitutional fertiliser in evenfall . It can be cut back back of the initial bloom to get the plant life to re - flush with flower . I ’ve not see any dirt ball pests on it other than some spring aphids on the soft new growth . It can get lily-white fly sheet if white fly are an outdoor pestilence where planted ( farming regions with cotton , for model ) . "
